THEN: The 1947 Caboose at its previous home on Gore Pass

NOW: Exterior restoration planned for summer/fall 2025

1947 Caboose

In July 2025, we have successfully moved our 1947 D&SL/D&RG Caboose from the home of the donors Marv and Carol McCall, who have been very supportive of our museum. Next, we will need to restore the exterior of the caboose by sandblasting then painting with black satin DTM paint followed by new stencils and lettering called the “livery”.

Being lifted by crane, the caboose is being set on the track at the Moffat Road Railroad Museum in Granby.

Its Journey in the News

Check out the article written about the arrival of the 1947 Caboose (July 25, 2025):

Restoration Planned

Our cost of moving the caboose is $4,500. The cost of doing the restoration work is $7,350. (The sandblasting and the crane operator being most of the cost.) That brings our total to $12,000 for a completed project.

We are asking for donations for this project. Getting this done before winter is important!

Exterior restoration work to be completed includes:

1. There are several subcontactors that we will need to help with the restoration. We have a contractor lined up to sandblast the exterior.

2. Once we have sandblasted, we must paint the next day. We already have all the paint and equipment needed.

3. Our staff will do all the carpentry and painting and lettering needed. Our staff has already restored, painted, and lettered 3 pieces of historic railroad equipment at the museum.

4. The interior is 75% rebuilt but will need some more carpentry done. Then we would paint the interior standard caboose green.

About The 1947 Caboose

It has an interesting story, seeing as how it was a D&SL caboose for just one day! More details to come soon
